Eligibility for the IDWeek Mentorship Program

Created in 2014, the IDSA Foundation’s IDWeek Mentorship Program offers medical students, residents and fellows with access to field leaders and the academic support they need to create their imprint on the field of ID. The impact of this program can have long-lasting effects.

As the field of ID is faced with fewer early career physicians choosing the specialty and the struggle for more federal funding for research, those that enter the field are critical to helping to safeguard public health. ID touches all aspects of our health — from getting vaccinated from the flu and increasing viral suppression of HIV to stopping the next new Ebola or Zika case spreading all over the globe. Supporting the medical students, clinicians and public health experts who will take the helm of ID will literally have worldwide consequences.

The IDWeek Mentorship Program has been revised to address the specific needs of the uniqueness of the ID medical community. Please read the information below thoroughly.

Applicants must be medical students, residents or fellows from an accredited medical school, residency or ID fellowship training program in North America. Please direct all questions about your application or eligibility to IDWeekMentorship@idsociety.org.

The application cycle is now closed.

For mentors

No matter the stage in a person’s career, one thing remains clear: mentorship can be a critical entrée into the field of infectious diseases (ID).Mentees glean from the expertise of ID physicians while mentors benefit by helping to foster a legacy within their chosen specialty.

This program was developed to provide a platform for more ID mentorship opportunities. Through this transformative program, medical students, residents, ID PharmD and fellows interested in the field are provided unprecedented access to ID leaders.

Participation in the program gives aspiring leaders the opportunity to be paired with an ID mentor during the IDWeek conference. The impact of this program can have long-lasting effects.

Mentorship begins the first day of IDWeek during a meet-and-greet lunch when mentors and mentees meet for the first time. After the initial lunch, the mentor/mentee pairs can choose to attend additional events together throughout the duration of IDWeek.

We are eager to match you with mentee who will gain from the invaluable insight you provide during your time together at IDWeek. Mentors must have registered for IDWeek and indicated interest in becoming a mentor. Emails were sent with a link to formally submit the application.
